Where Italy sizing sits among the world sizing systems

Italy uses numeric bands instead of centimetre numbers: 1 means a 70 cm band, 2 means 75, 3 means 80, and so on. The cups follow the EU consecutive-letter progression. Once you know the numbering, Italian labels are easy to read.

Sizes on this page are estimates. Sizing varies by brand and style, so always check the brand’s own size chart and try on before you buy. Nothing here is medical advice.

How to measure

You need a soft measuring tape and two minutes. Underbust: wrap the tape directly under your bust, level and snug, breathing out normally. Bust: wrap it around the fullest part, level across your back, without pressing in. Enter both numbers above, in inches or centimetres. The full steps are in the step-by-step measuring guide.

Cups run by the difference between your bust and band measurements. One inch of difference is roughly one cup step in US and UK sizing; in centimetre systems the steps are 2.5 cm.

How Italy sizing works

Italian bands are small numbers: 1 = 70 cm, 2 = 75 cm, 3 = 80 cm, 4 = 85 cm, 5 = 90 cm, 6 = 95 cm. Cups run A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H like the EU. The calculator on this page shows your Italian size directly.

A worked example

A 34-inch underbust with a 3-inch difference is an Italian 4D, an EU 85D, and a US 34C.

Converting to and from Italy sizes

To convert an Italian size, turn the number back into centimetres first (add 65, then multiply the steps by 5: IT 4 = 85 cm), then convert as an EU size. An Italian 4D is an EU 85D, a US 34C and a UK 34C.

Common measuring mistakes

Measuring over a padded bra lifts and compresses, giving a smaller bust reading. Measure without a bra or in a thin, unpadded one. Pulling the tape too tight underestimates the band. Letting the tape droop at the back overestimates the bust. Using an old size without re-measuring — weight, pregnancy, breastfeeding and aging all change the numbers, so re-measure every year or two.

Shopping tips for Italy

Italian stores label with numeric bands (1, 2, 3…), and international brands sold in Italy sometimes show EU sizes instead. If a listing shows 80 where you expected 3, it is showing the EU band — the two are the same size.

One habit covers every system: check the system on the label, convert both the band and the cup, and try the bra on before committing to more than one. Returns are easier than a drawer full of the wrong size.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizing system does Italy use?

Italian bands are small numbers: 1 = 70 cm, 2 = 75 cm, 3 = 80 cm, 4 = 85 cm, 5 = 90 cm, 6 = 95 cm. Cups run A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H like the EU. The calculator on this page shows your Italian size directly. If a label you are reading does not match this system, it is probably an import — convert it rather than guessing.

How do I convert my US or UK size to a Italy size?

To convert an Italian size, turn the number back into centimetres first (add 65, then multiply the steps by 5: IT 4 = 85 cm), then convert as an EU size. An Italian 4D is an EU 85D, a US 34C and a UK 34C. The global size converter does this translation for any size in one step.

What if my size is not sold, or I am between sizes?

Try a sister size: one band down and one cup up, or one band up and one cup down, keeping roughly the same cup volume. If you are between cups, start with the larger cup — you can tighten a band, but you cannot add cup volume.

Do brands in Italy vary?

Yes. Every system is a starting point, not a guarantee: band stretch, cup depth, wire width and grading vary by brand and style. Always check the brand's own chart and try on when you can.
