Australian sizes look unfamiliar at first: instead of bands like 34 or 36, you will see bands like 10, 12 or 14. The system is simple once you know the rule — subtract 22 from the US band number — and the cup letters follow the same progression as UK sizing. How AUS Bra Sizing Works

Australian bra sizing has two parts: a band number and a cup letter. Here is the logic the calculator uses:

  • The band. AUS bands run 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and so on up to 26. To convert from the US or UK band, subtract 22: a US 34 band is an AUS 12 band, and a US 36 band is an AUS 14 band.
  • The cups. AUS cup letters follow the UK progression — A, B, C, D, DD, E, F, FF, G and beyond. This matters once you pass DD: an AUS E is the fifth cup step up from A, exactly like a UK E.
  • A worked example. A shopper measuring 34 inches under the bust and 37 inches around the bust gets band 12 (34 − 22) and a 3-inch difference, which is a C cup — so AUS 12C, the same cup volume as a US 34C.
  • An estimate, not a verdict. As with every sizing system, brands cut differently. Use your result as a starting point and check the manufacturer's own size chart.

Common Measuring Mistakes

  • Treating AUS cups like US cups past DD. AUS cups follow UK letters, so above DD the letters diverge from US sizing. A US DDD is an AUS E.
  • Measuring over a padded bra. Measure over a thin, unpadded bra or a snug top so the tape sits where the bra band will sit.
  • A sagging tape. Keep the tape level all the way around your back — a mirror helps. A tape that dips at the back adds phantom inches.
  • Assuming one size fits every brand. AUS brands do not cut identically. If you are between sizes, try both and judge by comfort: the band should feel snug on the loosest hook.
